boromini

boromini
Originally uploaded by intercontinental O.P.
ok so this is the court yard of st ivo in rome, the original site of the college of rome, the white enclosed dome and lantern are done by boromini, the second bigest heavy hitter of the baroque who impailed himself on a sword and if that didn't tip you off, never really caught a break. however this is one of his master peices and the spiraling lanter can be seen from a good deal of the city... asuming your high up or on an open street

and here is another baroque illusionistic dome in the gesu church (mother church of jesuit order IHS, Black pope, those guys) any who the church was originaly bare as that the ihs was big on vows of poverty and not so much the materialistic stuff, however as the high baroque stoped building churches with domes that could be painted, the late baroque fresco artists where comisioned to paint the blank spots in older churches, usualy those of the ihs or similar orders

fever

ok so then the next evening I was going to go out and do the exact same thing... but some whre around 5 i started feeling really tierd, and cold, and while i was just about to head out for the evening i got really really really cold, and realized I had a fever... so I spent the next two and a half days in bed, hallucinating and trying to stay hydrated... thus far least productive weekend in rome, this was probably about three weeks ago now and one of the main reasons for the lack of updates. sorry, though i'm feeling much better now

brandon a prelude

brandon a prelude
Originally uploaded by intercontinental O.P.
and here is but a prelude of the craziness to ensue, the "hat" is actually a purse that appears to made from a wookie, was given to us one night by a man by a dumpster as the three of us split some monitors that where tossed out, needless to say it is now a hat resembling something from the wizard of oz generic bad guy collection housing a harpo marx horn. the get up is the same as most of the garbage/road crew people around the city minus the special colors and insignias that tell you who they work for... and what is this all for you ask. well stay tuned and you'll be sure to find out

roberto

roberto
Originally uploaded by intercontinental O.P.
Roberto Manenno, sculpture professor extraordinare, you'll see more of him, a fun guy who takes us on lots of fun little excursions, thats him wearing one of liz's projects on his head while discussing what was to be done with it... not a bad solution... though the final result with fishing line and tea lights looks better... I have a bunch of really blurry ones of him making goofy faces but well like I said blurry

diving board

diving board
Originally uploaded by intercontinental O.P.
and here we have the largest surviving equestrian monument that the popes didn't melt down to make their own statues it is of Marcus arilious and is on a diving board for some reason, while an especially heinous copy sits outside where this one used to be, apparently it was made from a digital scan of this, thus explaining its strange proportions

alter of the heavans

ok so this is the view from the expensive cafe attached to the capoline museum, looking back at the Vittorio Emanuel monument and saint Mary's of the alter of the heavens, my favorite church by far... haven't been inside yet but no matter, you'll see why I like it so much in subsequent posts

why I dont run when it rains

tiber flooded
Originally uploaded by intercontinental O.P.
the foot path along the tiber is my preferred running route, which is not visible in this picture due to the fact that it is currently under water (rather was when this picture was taken), the cobble stone that heads south from this point is terrible to run on but its all concrete if you head north, I usually run till i get to the fourth bridge up from ponte regina margherita that runs to piazza del popolo from the vatican just one south of the lock bridge

tiber

tiber
Originally uploaded by intercontinental O.P.
this is what the tiber looks like after it rains, granted the walls keep it from flooding the city but it does flood the paths that run along side of it and the water usualy stays up for a few days

scrible

Originally uploaded by intercontinental O.P.
so this is the very last sol lewitt picture to be posted sorry for no finished picture of the ink piece but cest la vi, this one is all done with tiny marks made with HB pencil lead, wim, the follicly lacking individual in the picture was calling the shots on this one, what happened was after sachi left, I managed to get really really sic and spent a few days in bed so I didn't get to help her finish and I generally did not participate in this piece i think i was there all of two days, and still a little under the weather for one of those, the bummer is that the museum did not if fact, contrary to what was promised, invite us to the opening of the exhibit and has thus far provided very little documentation, a vague reference in an article is all we have so far. but meh. this one does not look as cool as the other and was much less fun to work on so no real need to delve further into it

none of the shots of how this came into my possession came out but, I was walking back from school one evening and saw this thing bing tossed about by passing cars in an intersection and thought it was rather cool, and as I was crossing the street it blew into my hands, needless to say it is a very cool balloon, with tire marks on one side even.

in the same church, and since all of my pictures came out blurry and most of you are not in fact art history majors, and if you are probably do not like the baroque period any way, here is what I couldn't get a good shot of http://www.luc.edu/depts/history/dennis/Visual_Arts/02-Baroque_Bernini_Ecstasy-of-St-Theresa.jpg
